This story starts with Gaelle, a healthcare provider at a nursing home in current day, who is drawn to an older resident who seems to have some sort of powers. Her chapter is quite short and we do not get to read anymore of her story. The rest of the preview is focused on Margot, a black slave of a wealthy white family, living in Louisiana in 1857, who has some kind of healing magic and her grandmother who sees visions of tragedies to come. Wondering if the woman in Gaelle's story is Margot, or maybe her grandmother? Very electrifying start to this story and the preview absolutely leaves you wanting more!
