In the excerpts provided, it's quite evident that the writer uses the backdrop of racism and slavery. What's different from others in this genre though, is that she narrates the story seamlessly moving from one century to the other. Stories like "Remembrance" that toggle between different time-frames have always interested me. To make it more gripping, there is also a mystical element added to the story.

The writer's style appears to do justice to the sensitive subject chosen. Her writing is heartfelt and aptly describes the suffering, pain, and humiliation that the protagonists go through.

The cover is beautiful and has a strong impact. Had I chanced upon it in a book-store and had a couple of minutes to spare, I would have surely checked it out.

This one's definitely up my alley, and I'd like to read it for sure!
