Lots of different narratives for an important subject matter

I think this book has a lot of promise. For one, there are not enough pieces of historical fiction told through the perspective of people of color so that alone makes this book interesting. On top of that the multiple points of view and time jumps creates a sense of not only how times and society changes, but also how it stays stagnate and continues to loop back in on itself when it comes to tough decisions and questions.
