As a fan of literary fiction, especially historical literary fiction, I cannot wait to read more of this story. I was immediately drawn into the story after reading of the tragedy of the Haitian hurricane on its inhabitants and how Gaelle and her sister’s life immediately changed for the worse. However, when the story highlighted the special connection between Gaelle and the elderly resident of the nursing home, I was a fan of this book for sure. I can’t wait to find out how Margot’s family is tied to Gaelle, and possibly the elderly resident as well. And what happened to Gaelle once she touched the elderly resident? What did the elderly resident do? Who is she?

From the small taste that readers received from this excerpt, I know that this story is a good one and I am already invested in the lives of Gaelle and her sister and Margot, Veronique and Grandmere. I am also curious to find out what is going on with the Hannigan family and how the passing of James will impact those who remain.

The book cover is a beautiful representation of the focus of this book; women and our ability to persevere in even the most challenging of circumstances. I can’t wait to ready more!
