Queenie is a modern, relatable story of a woman finding herself and her strength in a world that's thrown her more shit than anyone should have to deal with. We meet the title character at a particularly vulnerable time in her life. She's coping with the end of a serious but problematic relationship and attempting to deal with it by sleeping with all the wrong men. Her family just doesn't seem to understand her, and she's dealing with the reality of life as a Black woman at a job and in a world where white supremacy still reigns. If you haven't been Queenie you've certainly had a friend that reminds you of Queenie, and you just want to reach through the page, simultaneously shake and hug her, tell her it's going to be alright, and help her get it all together. It's painful to watch her spiral, but ultimately she is a strong, vulnerable, and capable woman who makes it out of her struggles with both inner strength and the support of the important people in her life.
