Queenie is in her mid-twenties living in London, working at an entry level job at a newspaper. She is of Jamaican origin (her grandparents moved to London when they were younger). As Queenie is on a 'break' from a current relationship, she is facing a lot of the same dating dilemmas that many twenty-something women do- might this be the one? If not the one forever, what about the one for right now? However, her own issues and childhood experiences impact her decisions, causing her to be a bit impetuous and unsafe in her choices regarding men and sex.

This is not a traditional love story- it is a story of one woman's strength and courage as she faces her own beliefs about herself and the barriers she puts in her own way. Overall, I found the story be a worthwhile read of Queenie's struggle to value herself. She is also surrounded by a solid group of supportive (mostly!) female friends and family which add to the power of her story.
