Oh, Queenie! I simultaneously want to be your best friend, have a drink with you, cry with you, and yell at you for being so dense! lol

Queenie Jenkins is a one of a kind, highly relatable character - a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman who suddenly finds herself breaking up with her white boyfriend. But where can she go from here? This novel deals with a myriad of themes - race, gender, culture, abusive relationships, sexual power and lack thereof, individual rights, mental health, family bonds, and the power of female relationships.

This is Candice Carty-Williams’ first novel and her writing is wonderful! I was immediately pulled into the story. I love the unique structure, which includes texts and emails. I chuckled aloud more times than I can remember at the snarky humor laced throughout. And although I am nothing like Queenie on the surface, I identified with many of her struggles - her insecurity, her fear of speaking up, her search to find her place in her personal and professional life.

This was an entertaining and thought-provoking read. I definitely recommend it!
