Not A Bad Book

This book takes place in present-day London. The main character, Queenie, is in her mid-twenties. The reader is introduced to her after a break-up or "break" with her boyfriend, who is white. There are a lot of romantic downs in this book, which I guess is reality for a lot of twenty-somethings in the dating scene. But while reading I was like can she get one break in the guys that she was meeting. Her behavior was detrimental, which in a way made her a not so likable person due to the choices she was making. But Queenie is still young and learning, so she's not going to be perfect. It obviously would have been a boring story if she was perfect and knew the right things to do and say.

Queenie's friends (at least two out of the three) and family were great additions to the story. I found myself laughing at some of the parts with her grandparents, and the differences between the old school and new school. I definitely wanted more story that dealt with her family. In particular, the relationship with her mother.

I know when I really love a book because I cannot put it down, and I will finish it in like two days. This wasn't the case for this book. I found it difficult with wanting to read and to finish the book. I guess I just didn't care enough about Queenie. I can't say that I liked her or was rooting her (maybe near the end though). It's not a bad book. There are good parts in the book that make it enjoyable. Overall, I would still recommend this book for people to read.
