Queenie is truly a fresh new perspective on the "young woman finding her way in the world" story. Queenie is a young Black woman living in London. After breaking up with her boyfriend, battling work issues, and dealing with unresolved family problems, she falls into a depression. She doesn't value herself and lets others use her. I was rooting for her to find her way and realize her worth. The author sure packs a lot of meaty topics in this book! I read somewhere that it was being called a modern Bridget Jones for a whole new generation of young readers. I can see that for sure. Even though I'm probably about 20 years older than the target audience, I enjoyed reading this unique novel. Well written. I will definitely be looking for more from this author.
