Based on the excerpt I read, Queenie has been added to my "To Read" list. The comparisons to Bridget Jones are entirely superficial as this is a far more subtle writing about race and race relations wrapped in the paper of a young woman's anxiety about herself and her relationship. Because discussions about race have become so prevalent, I, as a white woman, have been seeking out novels written by women of color to gain knowledge and perspective. While this excerpt was fairly dark in tone, it was beautifully written. Characters are well developed through nuances, and the texting trope adds another dimension to the reading experience. I'm looking forward to experiencing more. The cover is awesome!
