Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams is about a woman named Queenie Jenkins. She is a Jamaican British woman in her 20's who is trying to find her place in the world. I really enjoyed this book because it offered a perspective that was different than my own and featured a female lead that went beyond the "strong black woman" trope. This book is fresh and honest. Queenie has flaws and struggles with mental health and makes some bad decisions along the way, but you find yourself rooting for her.
The writing style made for an easy and quick read. Once I started the book, I couldn't put it down. It was unlike anything else that I have read and I felt like I learned a lot from this book. If you enjoy stories about dynamic female characters, you will enjoy this book!
