Queenie, a Jamaican-British twenty-something, has just broken up with her boyfriend and is having a difficult time. She is examining what went wrong in her interracial relationship, as well as her relationships at work and her “well-meaning” white, liberal friends and coworkers. ⁣

This book was really interesting and a fun read. The beginning is more Bridget Jones-esque as we get to know Queenie and her friends as she parties and dates through London. The latter half is more introspective, as Queenie deals with her mental health and issues surrounding her life. There were a lot of hard hitting issues touched in this book- racism (both intention and unintentional, and how both hurt), the immigrant communities reluctance to seek mental health treatment, childhood trauma and abandonment, and black lives matter (reactions, or non reactions from those Queenie loves). I definitely advise reading this book for fun, but also for a peek into another’s life that is outside your typical reading space (at least for me!). ⁣
