Queenie tells of a Jamaican-British young woman trying to figure out her place in two different cultures.

This was such a good book. There was so much to it -- cultural issues, generational divides, mental health, coming of age, professional struggles -- there's something in there that everyone should be able to relate to.

As a character, Queenie was frustrating at times, made some really poor decisions, but this helped to show her as human being, flawed and growing up, and making mistakes along the way. You want to shake her at times, get her to understand that her insecurities are hurting her. But you have to love her.

I really appreciated the way the novel showed different perceptions of therapy, and how different cultures and generations deal with mental health. I thought that was handled really well, and show just how much pressure someone has to overcome to seek out help - that pressure frequently comes from external sources as well as one's own hesitancy sometimes.

A great read, highly recommend.
