This book's cover immediately grabbed my attention with the bold color choice and graphic design. Thankfully, the contents match the cover. I loved Queenie as a narrator already and the first look left me with a lot of questions that I want to see answered. Already the narrator is intriguing and complex with a voice that is distinctly young and fresh. These first pages set up a story that tackles interracial relationships, the immigrant experience, as well as the struggles of the younger generation in today's modern society. Although not specifically stated, the ending of the sample leads me to believe there is some mental health issues at play in the novel too, and I definitely look forward to finishing Queenie's journey once released.
