While science fiction and fantasy are typically my least favorite genres, I really, really love the premise of this work of nonfiction. Nothing is worse than reading along in a novel, only to be tripped up by some incorrect references, or simply references and details that fail to grab my attention or seem way too implausible.

First of all, the table of contents itself is pretty fascinating, which is a rare compliment to throw in a book review! It’s easy to see that this anthology is an outstanding reference tool for aspiring authors, simply by the first glance at that list of what the book will cover. Diving into the first few chapters, I’m already drawn in by the wit and anecdotes, not to mention the easy to understand, step-by-step directions on exactly how to accomplish the not-so-simple art of asking the right questions and simple research before constructing a narrative.

Pulling advice from over 40 experts, in various areas of study, this book is sure to help aspiring authors create those just-right stories that make the reader feel like they’re smack in the midst of the action. Highly recommend!
