First off, this book was tough to read. I wasn't sure at first what I was diving into but when I opened up this book and read the first couple of chapters I was hooked. Brian grew up in a totally different area than I did so I was so shocked to read some of the racism that he endured in his upbringing. I have never understood how some individuals think that certain colors of skin equal a certain character. I felt all the emotions. I was sad and angry at Brian's father for treating him the way he did and not accepting him. I was devastated over the generalizations that all white people act a certain way. It's sad to think that there is so much of that kind of behavior going around to assume that. I loved how Brian intertwined his story with Tuan on the bus and how he almost pleaded and wished for better life experiences for him. I learned so much from this book and I'm so glad I got selected to read it.
