I'm not a fan of memoirs or part of the LGBTQIA community but I can see an important story when I see one. Not only does this book discuss racism in the MidWest, but it openly talks about the struggles of a young black man coming to terms with his sexuality. There are very few books written so honestly from this perspective and I can see it being a lifeline for a lot of kids going through the same pain/torment/questioning as the author.
