Punch Me Up to the Gods is about a gay Black man who details his struggles growing up as an uncoordinated teen with a burgeoning sexuality. He incorporates the racist expectations of his lovers amidst the backdrop of his isolating childhood. I found the story sexually graphic at parts, but otherwise poignant and raw.
The jacket cover does not do the story justice and I had no idea that Brian is actually gay. I think that's a crucial part of the story that should be incorporated. Definitely an interesting read!
