This memoir is definitely not about basketball other than the trauma of being expected to play basketball because of one’s race. The author, a Black gay man, eventually learns to avoid the center of the action in gym class and even tries to date a woman. Seems like the memoir will be about how he becomes confident in who he is and stops trying to be someone he’s not.
