Fun Adventurous Read
This book was an interesting Rapunzel retelling with a dark twist - our Rapunzel (Selestra) can predict death and steal souls with her magical abilities. It takes place in a magical kingdom where an immortal King rules and witches have been persecuted leaving only the Somniatis Witches with the ability to perform magic. I felt that the magic system was interesting but also a bit overpowered.
The book is told in a first person point of view with alternating perspectives between Selestra and Nox - our soldier looking for revenge. Selestra is our snarky and tough female main character who is also slightly insecure. She reminded me of Poppy from From Blood and Ash or Juliette from the Shatter Me series. Nox is the arrogant and chivalrous love interest. This book had themes of trust and learning to believe in yourself.
Overall, I thought this was a fun adventurous read that was a little predictable. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cute teen romance with some magical elements or an easy young adult read about a magical adventure. I would not recommend this for anyone looking for a gripping fantasy read or a steamy heart wrenching romance.
