I felt a little disconnected from this, but that might have only been because I was in a slump when I read this. Here's a list of things I liked about the book:

1. The FMC: Selestra. She's rebellious, brave and saves herself & others multiple times throughout the book. She's not a damsel in distress.

2. Nox, the love interest, who is funny, reckless and a skilled fighter. I especially like how protective he gets when Selestra is in danger hehe

3. Selestra's friendship with Irenya. I love to see girls supporting girls, in fiction and in real life. These girl besties didn't never let a boy come between them, and I love that! I want to see more friendships like this in the media.

4. Nox's friendship with Micah. It was really wholesome :)

5. The banter! It was witty and fun. It made the reading experience much more enjoyable. I'm including a quote below so you can see for yourself:
----""You're lucky. A lot of girls would love to keep my hair in a locket close to their hearts."
I raise my eyebrows. "How unfortunate for them to have lost their minds so young."
Nox's lips curve upward. "I am known to drive women crazy."
I roll my eyes."

6. The plot. It's about a group of reluctant allies who go on a quest to find the only weapon that can kill the immortal King of Souls who literally chews on souls. If there's one thing I love, it's reluctant allies.

Overall, this was a really fun time! If I hadn't read it in the middle of a slump, it might have been a 4.5 or 5 star read.
