This is a unique and intriguing start to a novel. I was quickly pulled in with Christo's descriptive writing style, and loved the way that Selestra's magic is explained without info-dumping, as well as how her own internal struggle is laid out within the first two chapters.

Selestra is a curious character, and I'm already fully invested in the story. I already want to know what happens next, and how her storyline ties together with that of Nox, and why he is getting involved in this bargain in the first place, when he seems to have a lot going for him in other areas of his life. It feels as though there's more going on under the surface that we don't know about just yet, and it makes me even more eager to get my hands on a copy of this book.

The cover is visually striking, although in a different style from the other Christo book which I've read (To Kill a Kingdom), and it definitely drew my eye, placing this book firmly at the top of my anticipated releases list for the second half of 2022.
