Right from the get go, this book draws you in (as an aside, any book that features a map of the fictional area in the beginning pages is a win in my book!).
The author jumps right into the story, which features a strong female protagonist (yes!!) and is filled with magic. I may not be a part of the intended target audience (young adults), but this is my kind of book!
To me, the cover gives off comic book or sci-fi vibes rather than fantasy/magic and just doesn’t appeal to me. I’m glad I read the FirstLook provided because otherwise I don’t think I would have picked this one up, but now I’m already invested in this storyline and can’t wait to read on!
