My first genre of choice is not usually fantasy. However, the synopsis posted on the Bookishfirst website had me intrigued! The first 27 pages of "Princess of Souls" did not disappoint. Ms. Christo did a phenomenal job of setting the tone for this novel. The characters, plot, and setting are well well defined.
The main character, Selestra, is a young witch trapped on The Floating Mountain of Six Isles. She is the trusted advisor of King Seryth. She is awaiting the time in which she will take her mothers place as the King's witch. The King's witch foretells deaths in the Festival of Predictions.
During the most current Festival, Selestra is asked by the King to complete her first prediction on the final candidate, Nox, a soldier in the King's army. Selestra not only "sees" his death, but hers as well.
I'm looking forward to reading the remainder of this wonderful fantasy novel!
