This excerpt wasn't that great. Some lines felt like purple prose--I had to reread them multiple times just to make sense of it. I personally didn't like the characters, but others might. The MC is a witch with the powers of seeing a person's death with a single touch. Much like the inspiration from the story of Rapunzel, the MC feels like she's trapped in a life that's not her own, though she is treated like a princess. There's also inspiration from Greek/Latin for places names and such. There's also a map! Gotta love a good map in any SFF book.
I very much dislike the cover. It does NOT fit with the YA fantasy story. The art style looks like it's a comic book, which I initially thought.
