I teach 7th grade, and I have a lot of boys in the class who come from communities with different attitudes about what it means to be a boy and what it means to be a man. I'm thankful that, regardless of the values from their homes and families, my kids have never failed to support one another, having been in the same class since the 3rd grade. They are more than classmates--they are brothers, and they have learned to love and respect each other in more ways than one.

I share this because this book and the information shared in it is something that they would appreciate. We recently began talking about the social pressures of what a man is supposed to look like (muscular, six-pack abs, etc.) and it's been an enlightening conversation for all; especially the girls, who enjoyed listening to the other side of the problem regarding society's expectations of appearance for all gender identities. I can't wait to read this, and I can't wait to share (or adapt, if I have to) more excerpts with my kids. The brief pages I've shared with my kids has gotten them excited for this book, so I look forward to sharing more with them!
