I've read other books by this author such as City of Villains. I liked this better. Practice girl is a young adult contemporary book. It follows our main character, Jo. She's called a practice girl, like a girl you use before finding a real one. It's a girl you kiss or have sex with but they're not good enough to date. This really hurts Jo and her self-image. Jo is despite to find someone to love her like he love them, and although this makes her feel ashamed and despised, she takes a stand against double standards. I found this book to be really empowering. Young girls will benefit from this book. It's disgusting how some teenage boys treat girls in high school and this sheds light on that. However I did have a few issue with Jo, she thinks other girls are drama at first. She has her own double standards to work through too. I really like that she wrestles, I learned a lot about the sport!
