It has a nice and positive message about sexism in society and the common issue so many women (and people) deal with: being used for sex under false pretenses. In many ways, its a coming of age story about learning to stand up for oneself, seek out people who actually value you, and let go of insecure tendencies to define your self-worth by others. The problem is … it can be rather boring at times. I’m not really into sports or wrestling at all, so I found those parts pretty boring. The pacing was pretty slow and I’m not sure the main character really made as much progress as she thought she did (or as much progress as the author intend for her to). A lot of the relationships seemed like they were going somewhere and then just stagnated or faded out of the focus of the book. I never really connected with the characters enough to be very invested in the story, mostly because while I did relate to the characters’ struggles, I just didn’t personally identity with the characters. Maybe I’m just too much of an odd person. Maybe it’s just that really hate wrestling. All in all, it was okay, but not great.
