I feel like so many coming of age books are about girls who experience momentary awkwardness or a little bit of trauma and then come out of it with a makeover and a shiny new boyfriend. Or, they’re focused on the tragedy, not the journey out of it. That’s why I’m so excited to read the rest of this book. Jo is a girl trying to find love and acceptance, making mistakes that are so hard to learn from. Her story is relatable for the everywoman, and one that rings true for me in more than one way. I applaud her for recognizing Sam for what he is, and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads her. I hope she finds the path that leads her to herself, and to new relationships that are two sided and equally balanced. I also kinda hope Dax is part of it…
