Right off the bat, you know Josephine is a teenage girl who just wants to be loved. I really enjoyed that the author was nonchalant about Jo's past sexual activities with guys, not once did I feel like she was being painted as "promiscuous" or "that kind of girl".
You quickly learn that she has lost her father, and it's specifically mentioned "Any therapist would tell me my search for romance is all about my
daddy issues". I enjoyed that this trope was gotten out of the way quickly, and not something to be questioned throughout the book.
My heart completely aches for Jo because I feel like every teenage girl understands where she's coming from, whether they're sexually active or not.
