About 20 years ago, I was introduced to Heather Graham’s books when I was getting the MIRA Romance/Suspense subscriptions through Harlequin. I was also reading the Harlequin Intrigue line.

Graham’s novels looked and sounded like interesting and in-depth reads. While packing and unpacking after a few moves, I’d often skim her novels and wish I had time to read them.

And, I LOVED the Harlequin Intrigue line. It was so fascinating my mother even had a few books. They were my “go-to” series before I discovered the Love Inspired and Love inspired Suspense. This being a Graham/Intrigue, I thought it would be a great read.

Sadly, this book fell short. I couldn’t read past the first few chapters. I barely got past the prologue.

While it is about a group of teens involved in a killing some 10 years before, it reads as if it was written by a teen in the more common “teen horror flick”. For example think: “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

It was painful to walk away from this as it had a good premise. And, although I should’ve given it more time – it was a no go from there. It’s disappointing as I usually don’t DNF a book, especially from a line I love.

While I haven’t bought the Intrigue line in about 14 years, I hope it hasn’t succumbed to the horror that this novel was. And, I sincerely hope that this was an off moment for Ms. Graham.
