I always have mixed feelings about whether prologues are even necessary and that’s all there is to go on with this excerpt, I do like that there’s a supporting character with Down’s Syndrome and I am curious to know what happened after they went into the haunted house, but at the same time I feel like it didn’t really give me a sense of what I’ll be entering into with this book since the excerpt is backstory rather than the story, and they were teenagers then rather than the adults they’ll be over the course of this novel. The cityscape cover doesn't really give you any idea about the story either, though the sky does draw the eye.
