Not for me but I see the potential here

This short extract was enough to let me know that this is not a book I would enjoy but I do see the potential for others to do so. I'm pretty certain I'm not the demographic the book is aimed towards. Nor am I a fan of horror/ghost stories, which is where this seems to be heading. For those that are, however, this might appeal. And I know that the author is prolific and has a large fan base - I suspect they will like this.

We were offered only 5 pages, the prologue, so the backstory about friends enjoying a blood-thirsty Halloween carnival is pretty well established. We don't get to witness the event that drives the rest of the story, and really not enough of the characters to guess how it will play out.

It is interesting that there is a high-functioning Downs character who is integral to the story. I would be interested to see how his character develops if I were to pursue this. And if his voice continues to be heard (or, in this case, ignored).

The cover did not do anything for me. My guess is that is meant to portray the Bronx, where the story begins, with a bridge leading "Out of the Darkness" found there. But nothing about it would make me stop if I walked past it on the shelf at a bookstore.
