This might just be because I'm a book snob, but I found the writing in this one to be a bit ametuerish for my taste. I have nothing against Heather Graham, I've never read anything of hers before. I just found the prose in this one to be a bit lacking. It reads like it was written by a high schooler, with a lot of repetition and very basic language that paints a flat picture. But she is a New York Times bestselling author, so I am likely in the minority.
I will say that the story itself interests me. I am intrigued as to why Davey was afraid of the haunted house and how it serves the overall story as it goes forward. There is a hook to the book that works and keeps you wanting more, which is always a good thing.
