To be honest, I think Kate Alice Marshall's skill was really honed for her survival story I am Still Alive and adding the supernatural element didn't do it for me the same way. Marshall's writing is still pretty gripping. Her descriptions are gritty and real and she sets a great atmosphere and tone, but I wasn't as obsessed as I was with I Am Still Alive. This is a good choice if you are a reader looking for something creepy or unsettling. It has good tension and the snippets of different timelines add an extra element to that.

There was also an element of uncertainty if all the characters would survive, or really, who would end up dead and that was exciting. Fans of ghost stories, local legend tropes, X-files, and Twin Peaks will probably enjoy this one a lot.

While this book maybe wasn't a total home run for me, I think it's a good book and I will still grab anything she puts out.
