I really wanted to like this book, but it fell flat for me. Which is super disappointing because I loved Rules for Vanishing by the same author. That one actually scared me at times, which almost never happens! But this book didn't scare me, it mostly just confused me. The idea was interesting, just not well executed. If it was easier to follow I probably would have liked it more. But it was so scattered! Abby felt like a random character just thrown in the mix. I know she was there to kind of tie things back to the author's other book that I mentioned, but she felt unnecessary. And everyone else was kind of boring. And enough with the birds already! The setting was just so dull and the characters just kept doing the same things every day. Plus, I felt that there were some inconsistencies among the science fiction aspect, but I'm honestly too confused to be sure.
