Begging to be an audiobook
This is a totally ambitious book! It's full of eldritch terrors and body horror and other selves. I think it might be better as an audiobook or a mini-series n a streaming platform because it's so visually based and I had a hard time picturing the monsters so I think some of it was lost in the translation. But with the script/video format, it's absolutely begging to be a full cast, full production audiobook or a long form podcast that I would completely eat up.
Definitely for those who like ghost stories and local lore, and it reminds me of Limetown with the 'a long time ago, a certain number of people disappeared and now a relative has come back to figure out what happened' element. But oh, Kate Alice Marshall has a way of writing that is so spooky, and in some of the scenes I felt myself recoiling and being afraid to turn the page for fear of what would happen next.
