I picked up this book having read Kate Alice Marshall's other two, I Am Still Alive and Rules for Vanishing, and very much enjoying them both. First thing I noticed when I started reading this is that it is tied to Rules for Vanishing, which was a surprise. I wonder why it wasn't promoted as that? I LOVED Rules For Vanishing, and would have been even more excited for this one if I had known they were linked. Anyway, it has the same documentary style, with video transcriptions, interviews, written testimony, etc, and a frenetic pace that keeps the pages turning until you are so deep into it without even realizing.
It gave me House of Hollow vibes at times, in a good way, but while that one waded into paranormal, this one cannon-balls in. It's weird at times. Sometimes it doesn't really make sense, but you are just along for the wild ride and its a good one. One thing I wish was that it showed a bit more of Sophia's backstory/life. It definitely left it open for other books in the future and I can't wait for more!
