This book was better than I expected it to be. The way it was written was easy to follow and gave glimpses into the main characters past in a way that flowed well and made it feel almost as if you were thinking about your own memories. The only critique I have is that there was a lot of medical information in it, which although some of it was relevant to the story and interesting, I think there could have been less and it would not have taken anything away from the story. I will say, even those parts were written in such a way that anyone could understand it, even without any medical knowledge.
It was so nice to watch Gene grow into the person he became over the course of one summer. It was very relatable in a way that I think most readers will be able to relate to. At times it was almost uncomfortable the things that the reader could relate to, but that's how most good books are!
