This book's cover not only would make me pick it up in a brick and mortar book store, it grabbed my attention online! It promises a good story, and the first 42 pages deliver on that promise. The intense Florida heat, the small town atmosphere, and the sadness of unsolved brutal murders create a realistic story. The main characters may be YA, but this is a murder mystery that is sure to appeal to a wide range of readers. There are a lot of unknowns in the life of high school senior Tru. She has a mother who does not seem to provide much guidance or income. And why does Tru bother to lie to one of her former elementary teachers about starting at the university in the fall? In addition, readers can not be certain if there is going to be an element of magical realism or if main character Tru was simply hallucinating from holding her breath too long on that one dive. This might be a book that you want to read in the day time because it could be very scary!
