An Okay Thriller

This was just an okay thriller for me--it was good, but it wasn't great like I was expecting and hoping.

First of all, the cover for this book is absolutely stunning (in fact, all the covers for this author's books thus far have been home runs!), so that drew me in immediately. Then I read the description, plus the opening pages, and thought I was really going to enjoy this book.

Unfortunately, however, the book was a lot slower, and less thrilling, than I was anticipating. It's funny because usually I love a good slow burn, but this one felt a bit too slow for my liking. I think a big part of that stems from the characters themselves--I thought they weren't as fleshed out as they could have been, and lacked a bit of depth.

As much as I loved the queer rep and the paranormal element presented in this book, that wasn't enough for me to love. The plot felt a bit too familiar--I was looking for more of a unique twist on the "teenage girls solve cold cases" concept.

I will finish by saying this wasn't a bad book by any means. And if it sounds interesting to you, then you should definitely give it a try. It just wasn't for me.
