This magical tale will keep you guessing from the very beginning! I normally don't like books where there are lots of characters and jumping around from story to story BUT in this book it totally works as Diane Setterfield weaves a story that causes you to gasp in surprise as it unfolds.
Not all the characters are likable but there are others who I want to know more about and to have them live next door to me.
I have to say the river as a character was one of the most amazing features of the book. The way the author writes about it and brings it to life was well done! I wasn't sure whether I should be afraid of the water or embrace it - and in the end I did both!
