I can't wait to find out what happens next

I only read an extract but I loved every word. There's something beautiful and haunting about the language used, soft, melodic, almost like a lullaby. The author know how to write visually. I loved the narrative style, like the narrator is speaking directly to you. It felt like I was walking along a path with someone I knew, someone telling me local stories as we walked. The lull at the start of the first chapter is gradually interrupted when things takes a slightly darker turn. My heart was in my throat when the strange man stumbles into the bar. The moment is quite jarring. I really wanted to know who he was and what he wanted. The tension and suspense is built up really well. This is is perfect opening.
