I could hear the storyteller's voice.

The eerie beginning of the book was odd, yet intriguing. It was as if the storyteller was speaking directly to me while giving a little background to the story of a grotesquesly injured man, and a dead child in his arms.
I loved the sweetness between a sickly man, and the innkeeper's daughter, and how their love developed while he was storytelling at the Inn. They had 12 daughters, and much later, a son. Oh, I fell in love with that boy immediately.

His innocence when he kissed the dead little girl's forehead broke my heart. He really did believe he could bring her to life.

The storytelling is beautiful. I could picture the murky river, the smells, the tavern, and the characters vividly.
