FYI: I'd never heard of nor read any of the author's work before this First Impression.
The atmosphere and setting is built right away and beautifully. I'm sure many will fall in love the writing style and descriptions. The characters are odd. It's one of those books that keep you guessing because it's just enough removed from reality anything could happen.
But it didn't make me want to read it. It's ultimately not my taste. /shrug

It was rumored she even slept on her feet, but she had given birth to thirteen children, so clearly she must have lain down sometimes.
