Academia and fiction do not always work well together, there are some exceptions. Ken Follett with the Pillars of the Earth brought historical facts and combined with stunning prose that transported the reader to the medival age where wealth bought architecture that would withstand the ages. John Jakes took you on a journey through history with his Americana series. 14 pages was insufficient for me to understand where the author was going with this story, was it a historical retelling , a mystery or an attempt to cross a modern day fairytale. The characters were not well developed, and I did not understand the condition that the father suffered from andthe relevance it had to the story. It is obvious the author has a following, but maybe she shouldnt try to mix suspense and her style of historical prose. 2 stars..
