4.5 stars. Ended up really enjoying the book. Received an ARC from BookishFirst for an honest review. I initially read the First Impression blurb and thought it was “ok” because the section of the book that was chosen for a First Impression was a turn off. I didn’t care about winning the book, but I did. Glad I read it in its entirety it was good and moved along quickly. Jack loses his wife to illness after only a year of marriage and blames himself. Gemma is his in-house counsel and all-round partner assisting him in all aspects of the business, negotiations, etc. After two years of fighting their attraction for each other, things get steamy and HOT!!! Gemma an heiress in her on right that no one knows about as she earned her degrees and everything else in life. Jack a self-made billionaire is gorgeous and sexy sleeping with a new woman each night to forget his wife Lucy. Gemma doesn’t want to be one of Jack’s ladies and becomes so much more even though Jack doesn’t want or see it. After a week on business, Jack surprises Gemma and meets her at her parent’s society anniversary party and all his actions convey more. Gemma realizes he loves her as much as she loves him, but she finds out the next morning he was trying to forget his wife’s birthday and Gemma’s devastated. He even said some very hurtful things and Gemma leaves. He is at a lost and realizes what he lost and starts pursuing Gemma. It wrapped up to neatly as I still wouldn’t trust him at this point and that he could love her completely without his thoughts of Lucy.
