To start this review, I have to say I really liked the character of Gemma. She is super easy to relate to and I was rooting for her the entire time. She is strong, smart, and embraces those qualities! I would have read an entire series just based on her kicking business butt and taking names.
That being said, I could not get behind Jack. He is basically a jerk the entire time. I get that he misses his dead wife and that he has issues, but there is nothing he does that I feel makes him deserving of Gemma. He jerks around the entire time and then just expects her to fall in line with what he wants when he wants it.
At the end I just wanted Gemma to run away with someone more deserving. Maybe if I'd had more of Jack's perspective at the end I'd feel differently. However, given what I read, he still hadn't earned Gemma 's love.
