A twisty, different kind of Robin Hood

After finally finishing this chunkster, I have mixed views about it. It’s yet another retelling of Robin Hood that veers off the beaten path of the others...a mix of factual myth (is there such a thing?!) and pure fiction. While characters are recognizable, their actions and motivations are often totally not.

It was an entertaining, often humorous romp, but at almost 500 pages, I think it could have been tightened up a bit. And while not necessarily a criticism, it is often hard to see a well-loved classic from a totally different perspective. There are multiple views of who’s “good” and who’s “bad”, as chapters are told from various characters’ perspectives.

I found it interesting that in the author’s note there is the mention that this story started out originally as a stage play in 2012. There is also mention of another book to follow, and yes, I would probably read that one as well.

Thanks to #BookishFirst and #ForgeBooks for the ARC. The opinions are strictly my own.
