The opening scene led me to think - briefly - that this would be another trite story of a curmudgeonly book seller in a quaint town. Oh, was I wrong! This is an engrossing novel of trust, love, fear of loving, loss, brotherhood, family and so much more.
Told through the eyes of David, a longevite, who believes he is alone, the story develops as he meets Zac, and learns that there are four others like him.
Through Zac, Colm, Moiria, and Simon, David is able to share the experience of his longevity, begin to develop trust, and open himself to others in the here and now.
Having been afraid to admit his feelings for Tiania, his newly found sense of family allows him to do so. She assists him in strengthening his Christian faith, which enables him to make decisions as he and his friends encounter a crisis of morality. All the characters are well drawn, the plot is intricate and exciting - a great read!
